0Maidstone information, shopping and things to do...

About Maidstone - As Kent’s County Town Maidstone has a rich historical heritage and an architectural landscape that reflects its evolution from the early key industries that so heavily utilised the River Medway to the modern day town it is today. Maidstone has a colourful history shaped by battles, revolts, witches, mad priests and later, industrialists, brewers and Victorian benefactors.
Shopping - Maidstone is ranked in the top five shopping centres in the south east of England and has more than one million square feet of retail floor space, including the new Fremlin Walk. Fremlin Walk arcade opened, on the site of a former brewery, in the centre of the town. Other recent

developments include the riverside Lockmeadow Centre, which includes a multiplex cinema, restaurants, nightclub, bowling alley, and market square.
Things to do - Don't miss the attractions of Maidstone Museum & Bentlif Art Gallery, with themed collections ranging from Egyptian artefacts to local history, archaeology and costume. See the bones of the Iguanodon - and look for fossils under your feet in the new Earth Heritage Gallery. And don't miss the Archbishops' Palace, the Tyrwhitt-Drake Museum of Carriages offers a unique collection of horse-drawn carriages and is one of Maidstone's hidden gems!
