About Guildford - Guildford, the county town of Surrey, is a small market town in Southern England, halfway between London and Portsmouth. Historically it was first mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as Suthrige, the Southern District of Middlesex, the land of the Middle Saxons. Shopping - Shopping is a joy in Guildford, not only is there the pretty High Street but a vast contemporary shopping centre known as Tunsgate Square. In the shopping centre you’ll find most of the major High Street names for fashion and home ware such as Heal’s, The Pier and LK Bennett, with plenty of coffee shops for when you need a well-deserved break.
