0Burnley information, shopping and things to do...

About Burnley - Burnley is a large market town in the borough of Burnley in Lancashireand began its history in the early medieval period as a small market town. Its main period of expansion came during the Industrial Revolution, when it became the world's largest producer of cotton cloth. Today, Burnley has lost much of its industry, and is increasingly a dormitory town for Manchester and Leeds.
Shopping - Burnley's landscaped, pedestrianised town centre has glass covered walkways and atriums which house many of the major high street outlets. There is also an excellent choice of specialist shops where you can buy beautiful paintings, designer glassware, or exclusive jewellery.

For something different, the contemporary art on show at Mid-Pennine Gallery on Yorke Street often has striking and unusual exhibits which are available for purchase or which can be commissioned from the artists.
Things to do and Tourist Information - You can step back into history when Burnley was the biggest producer of cotton cloth in the world or you can walk in the footsteps of Charlotte Bronte when she visited the Shuttleworth family at Gawthorpe Hall. The Visit Burnley’s exciting new panopticon the ‘Singing-Ringing Tree’ – a unique musical sculpture in the form of a tree bending against the wind. A "must see" on your visit.
