About Axminster - Axminster is a quiet little market-town in Devon, well sited on a bluff above the River Axe. The Axminster carpet manufacture was started here in 1755 but failed in 1835. The original factory building may be seen NE of the church. The carpet manufacture has recently been revived in the town. Shopping - With a unique range of shops, many of which are independent, you'll be surprised by the shear variety of merchandise available in and around the town centre of Axminster. There is an excellent Thursday Market in Trinity Square, which is adjacent to the Minster Church.
