About Amersham - Amersham is broadly split in two, Amersham Old town, a historic market town and Amersham-on-the-Hill. (There is also a third area, called Little Chalfont.) The reason for the two parts of the town can be traced mainly to the Metropolitan Railway and the later Metropolitan line of London's underground. Shopping - Amersham on the Hill, or Top Amersham or also referred to as the new town, contains the main shopping centre of Amersham. The Old Town does not have many everyday type shops. (It has plenty of pubs, antique shops and restaurants).
